The notion of American West is deeply entwined with myth, symbolism, and contested histories, and extends beyond geographical borders into cultural and ideological terrains. The West has evolved through revisionist and postwestern lenses to become a diasporic, hybridized space reflecting diverse narratives and a multiplicity of critical perspectives. The 28th AISNA conference explores West’s – and “westness” – evolving identity through themes of contact, hybridity, regeneration, and failure across literature, cinema, and cultural history.
